Pray for the Enemy

Writer Christopher Hitchens is a hateful man. He is an atheist who hates what is holy (think the saintly Mother Teresa).

He is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer of the esophagus.

As a Christian, I am going to pray for him. That is what Christians are called to do. I hope he recovers and uses his immense talent to glorify God.

I recall in college a liberal was happy when Jesse Helms–one of my favorite senators of all time–was sick with a major illness. I was horrified. Liberals claim to be compassionate but only if you agree with them. If you disagree, then that makes you evil.

And they call us judgmental?

Unlike liberal atheists who believe in nothing, I know as a Christian conservative that I am called to love my neighbor–even if I don’t like him or agree with him.

Which brings me back to Hitchens, whose anti-Clinton views are among his only positives. Overall, however, he is a leftist who hates religion. Therefore, I am compelled to love and pray for him. As are all Christians.

Dear Lord, please help Mr. Hitchens recover and repent. May he come to know and love You. Amen.
