Obama Finds God…Before Election

09/29/2010

So I think we can all agree that President Obama talking about his belief in Jesus Christ is a display of interesting timing.

This is a man who frequently cited his Christianity while he was running for president. Then he gets elected and…he barely darkens the doorstep of any church. Recall that he quit his controversial church when he thought it would cost him independent white voters.

So he hasn’t joined a church or even attended one regularly. We’re reminded by his people that he is religious; he just doesn’t want to inconvenience anyone. Inconveniencing his fellow citizens didn’t stop him from going on “date night” with his lovely wife in New York City.

I was personally inconvenienced by all the security. He must have known I didn’t vote for him.

He also golfs, attends sporting events and vacations frequently. Apparently he doesn’t think that inconveniences anyone either.

Conservatives do say he is out of touch, don’t we?

Now just the other Sunday Obama and family walked to church. So he is capable of finding  a Christian house of worship. Weeks before an election where the Democrats are expected to be decimated at the polls.

Interesting timing indeed!

And now he is back to his version of God talk. Specifically, the ”I am just like you!” talk which screams “I am Christian!!!”. It couldn’t be because of the polls where  a sizable portion of the American people believe he is a Muslim. Could it?

What do I think? I think he believes in nothing but secular humanism but, if he were to believe in monotheism, he would be a Muslim atheist like his daddy. In other words, he’s a Muslim who has become non-practicing and functions like an atheist/agnostic. It seems that his true religion is socialism. A lot of liberals believe like this, many of whom dissemble about being God-fearing.

So, my dear fellow Americans, let us judge Bam by his actions, not his words. Saying one is a Christian is not enough; one must live it so it is obvious.

And this must be done all the time–not just as November approaches.

Should California Legalize Pot?

09/28/2010

California voters are considering legalizing marijuana in their state despite a federal ban. Some police argue it will reduce crime; other police say it will increase crime. Some Californians want it legalized so it can be taxed and be a source of desperately needed income to the bankrupt state.

Bankrupt morally as well as financially.

Marijuana, despite ridiculous arguments to the contrary, is dangerous and causes medical problems, psychological and physical. It is illegal for a reason. The comparisons with alcohol are poor. One can drink alcohol in moderation without getting high; the point of smoking dope is to get wasted.

By legalizing it, the state would be giving its seal of approval. All to make money so they can keep spending it. You don’t think they are going to pay off their debts with the influx of cash, do you? When something is legal, people tend to think of it as moral and certainly safe.

But that is not the case with drugs like pot. Despite the Hollywood glamorization of drug use–it’s treated as something funny and harmless–marijuana is dangerous. I recently heard a dope-y liberal say alcohol is the same as pot, and the latter is even safer! How absurd, but this passes for legitimate argument these days.

Marijuana is dangerous since it affects a person’s mind and body in a negative way–and this is in addition to it being a mind altering substance. It affects judgment. We don’t need more drugged out Americans who cannot see what our leaders are doing to us.

Now is the time for sobriety and moral strength. Don’t let the government give you soma–remember Brave New World?–and lull you to sleep.

Vote against legalization of pot if you care about your children and grandchildren. And this rapidly deteriorating nation.

Can you imagine our Founding Fathers fighting and dying so little Johnny can toke on the weekends? How this country has fallen apart so that we would even be having this discussion is heartbreaking. The fact that this is even on the ballot is troubling in a state where there is little money and plenty of illegals. Talking about not having the right priorities.

Lazio Does the Right Thing

09/27/2010

Rick Lazio, who failed to win the Republican nomination for governor of New York, has done the right thing by dropping out of the race so the Republican candidate, Carl Paladino, can hopefully be the Conservative nominee as well.

In having this be  a two-man race, Lazio has just made it that much more likely that businessman Paladino will defeat liberal Democrat Andrew Cuomo in November.

We need to get rid of the same old people. With this state a laughingstock due to the situation in Albany, doesn’t it make sense to bring in fresh blood, someone independent who has a life outside of politics? Clearly this is not Andy Cuomo, who has an incredible sense of entitlement due to his daddy having been the governor. Another lousy Democrat with no solid values but loved by the liberals and the elite.

To me Andy is like Spitzer without the sleaze. Both men claimed to be crusaders looking to stick it to big business and to help the little guy. Dems have been saying this and not doing it for decades. And Spitzer was a horrible hypocrite, breaking the law by paying for sex, but getting away with it. Yeah, he had so much in common with the little people!

Cuomo is a standard liberal Democrat so he clearly will not change anything as even Rick Lazio pointed out. While Lazio was not yet ready to endorse Paladino, his action of getting out of the way makes it much more likely that Paladino can pull off the upset that New York needs.

We do need change, not words or slogans or speeches. We need our taxes lowered and we need spending cut. As a business leader, Paladino knows how to get finances in order. He is not running and spending his own fortune to be a social engineer or to redistribute the wealth.

This man wants to fix New York State. Is he perfect? As I previously noted, no. But we cannot sit around waiting for some perfect politician to appear. What makes Paladino special is he is not a pol and does not want to be one. He wants to fix the state he loves.

He is no careerist like Andy or even Rick Lazio.

It will be a tall order with all the special interests. Look at the troubles endured by Gov. David Paterson, who, while a liberal Dem, tried to make some headway with spending cuts, only to be rebuffed by his own party, which cares more about special interests than this state.

Paladino is basically an independent running as a Republican. If he cannot make  change, I give up. But we should at least give him the chance.

What have we got to lose but more ugly Dems?

Respecting God’s House

09/26/2010

I went to Mass, as I do every Sunday, but to another church, where there was a surprise for me. I was shocked at the way people dressed and acted.

First, there was the 20-something female who showed up in her running shorts with only her blackberry in hand. Not only had she obviously come from running–kind of her to drop in to God’s House!–she proceeded to check her email! I know I have noted inappropriate behavior by people in church before but this was quire exceptional. Particularly because this is a church in a well-to-do neighborhood and is generally populated by nice folks.

Not people who decide to drop in on the way home from a run.

This reminds me of families from the suburbs who stop by church on the way home from the soccer game with the kids still in their gear.

On the one hand, it is good they go to church, especially as a family. On the other hand, what message does it send to the kids when church is just another activity, like soccer, to be crossed off the list of activities that need to be accomplished? Attending Mass should be the highlight of the week and an activity that brings families together and to God.

Another issue is timeliness. I noticed the flood of people showing up throughout the Mass. Is it really that hard to be on time? We are asked to show up to God’s House for about 45 minutes a week. A small amount of time and we should make  every effort to be early, let alone on time.

We get so caught up in our busy lives that we often give God the least of ourselves instead of the best of ourselves. Among the little He asks of us is to come to His House every week, to be on time, and to behave appropriately.

I hope for better next week!

Military Bishop Tells Truth About Gays

09/24/2010

The Archbishop for the Military, Timothy Broglio, has spoken up on the hot button issue of gays in the military from a pastoral perspective. He has rebuked a fake Catholic group for trying to get him to betray Catholic teaching.

Not only has this man said to chaplains not to condone homosexual activity while respecting individual homosexuals–hate the sin, love the sinner–he has also said any group calling itself Catholic that is not in line with Church teaching is not Catholic.

This man is a hero. Too few bishops speak the Truth for fear of liberals, or lack of popularity, or a need to be politically correct. Or just general weakness. Bishops cannot afford to be weak in these difficult times. And I am so proud of Archbishop Broglio for being clear and brave.

We are not ashamed of the truth and it must be told. We Catholics love all people, including homosexuals, who need compassion and support, not license to indulge aberrant sexual desires. Likewise, we cannot condone or support any inappropriate sexual behavior, whether contraceptive sex or unmarried sex, and must encourage chastity.

Everyone who has half a brain knows the Catholic Church’s teachings on sexuality so why do phony Catholic groups pop up and act surprised about it and then stand in open rebellion while denying that is what they are doing?

Well, they are not Catholic, even if they were born that way. Living any way they choose is more important to them than obeying God. And just because society has gone mad and anything goes, the 2000+ year old Catholic Church will continue to stand up for the laws of God.

Of course, this will eventually lead to problems for the Church. I can envision the passage of laws that take away our freedom to practice our faith if it conflicts with the gay agenda. So that is why leaders like Broglio need to speak up decisively now. While we still can.

Victory: DREAM On!

09/22/2010

After suffering from health care reform being foisted upon us by united, devious Democrats, the revolution taking place in this country is starting to scare not only Democrats but RINOs. How else to explain the defeat of amnesty for illegals and gays in the military?

To get all the Republicans on board including wimps like John McCain is impressive and is indicative of how nervous these useless pols are. They need to realize that the people will not be satisfied with business as usual. The Republicans have to follow through. Or else they will be gone in 2012.

So the Dems and Repubs are on their best behavior less than two months to the midterm elections. If only the upcoming election could have stopped Nancy and her minions last spring from health care destruction. But the good news is that the Repubs are starting to get it (shocking, indeed!).

On Thursday, the party of NO! is going to reveal its agenda. On top of the list is…repealing healthcare. There are lawsuits from the states and various legislation has been proposed to repeal this health care destruction in part. Now the Repubs have been emboldened by the American people to do the job that we sent them there to do. Which at this point is to mainly protect us from the Democrats.

We must not allow the greatest health care system the world has ever known to be destroyed by the full implementation of this law. Let the Repubs prove their worth and give us reason to vote for them in November and 2012!

Be Your Own Health Care Advocate

09/21/2010

Obamacare has not yet been fully implemented so I will not blame the problems in the health care system on him. Despite America having the greatest health care system the world has ever known, there are still problems.

There are overworked doctors, health care providers who don’t move as fast as we are told they’re supposed to in crises, nurses and aides who do the best they can with short staffing. There are many problems which require health care consumers to be smart, educated, outspoken but diplomatic.

Not always easy.

Whether it is for ourselves, or our parents and grandparents or children, we will come in contact with the health care system. We need to know what questions to ask, not to be so trusting and not to let our valid concerns be dismissed. It is not just a question of preventing medical malpractice; it is a question of getting the right care at the right time.

I come in frequent contact with the health care system and have learned how to become more assertive as the advocate for elderly relatives. The elderly and anyone at all compromised need an advocate. I think the hospitals and nursing home staff mean well but there is only so much they can do.

Examples:

  • I had an elderly relative in a hospital after minor surgery; the nurses and staff let her stay in bed all day. If I didn’t go and check on her after work, she would have been left all day and night–a big no no in case you are unaware–for days on end.
  • This same dear relative was left for hours in her own urine. The diapers were not changed for an extended period of time. I called an aide but, due to short staffing, she did not come. Knowing that being left in urine is deleterious to the health of the elderly, I moved her around in the bed and removed the wet bedclothes from underneath her.
  • Another elderly relative may have had a mini-stroke at her nursing home. I ran up and advised the nursing staff. It was a weekend so I knew not to expect much. I was told the on-call doctor would see her later in the day. He arrived at 10 pm–when this dear lady was asleep. I am sure that examination went quite well!

These are just a few recent examples that I have personally encountered. What they teach me–and hopefully you–is that you have to be vigilant–especially when you or a loved one is in an institution, short-term or long-term, where health care services are provided.

Imagine what will happen if Obamacare is allowed to go into full effect!

O’Donnell Repented of Witchcraft

09/20/2010

I warned you that Ms. O’Donnell would be the next Sarah Palin in terms of the viciousness of the media assault on her. And the attack came swiftly.

O’Donnell has spent much of her career advocating for morality, particularly sexual morality. She appeared on several occasions on the show of anti-Catholic bigot, ignorant atheist and extremist liberal Bill Maher. So he took some unaired segments and released them to his fellow media hatchet men for use in mocking Miss Christine.

What was the hullabaloo all about? She said in the clip that she had dabbled in witchcraft as a young person and that her first date–much to her surprise–was on a satanic altar. Assuming this is accurate, I say, so what? She has clearly repented and is living a Christian life.

So why are the media acting like this is going to destroy her among her base? They know nothing about Christian conservatives and live in stereotypes.

Christians believe in repentance and forgiveness. I can only assume from the life that Christine has led as an adult that she has repented from any such sin and embraced virtue. That is enough for us Christians, who, unlike liberals, believe man can change and be saved by turning our lives over to God.

We are not saved by voting for Obama and for letting the government dictate how we should live. We were saved by Jesus and we have to acknowledge that and live as He requests.

Liberals have no time for God and want to live without Him; they generally want us to live without Him too.

They are deathly afraid of folks like Christine and her supporters–normal God-fearing, taxpaying people who don’t live in either San Francisco or the Upper West Side of Manhattan. You know, decent people.

So they will continue the attack but we conservatives will ignore it and joke, along with Ms. O’Donnell, that if she were into witchcraft, Karl Rove would probably be supporting her. I like her sense of humor but think that if she were into witchcraft Bill Maher would herald her! That would make her anti-Christian and thus just the kind of gal he would support.

Tea Party Independents?

09/18/2010

I was listening to some talking heads discuss the viability of pro-life candidates such as Delaware candidate for U.S. Senate Christine O’Donnell and New York candidate for governor Carl Paladino. The obstacle to them winning, per the elites, is that they are too radical on social issues and this will make it difficult for independents to vote for them.

I gather these are the independents who voted for Obama thinking he would bring change. So the independents are, according to this logic, socially liberal and stupid (for believing Bam). The implication is also that they are more conservative on economic issues.

I find this kind of alleged moderation or balancing act, common in the Northeast among the middle class, repulsive. What they are saying is that they want low taxes, plenty of services and want everyone to have sex without consequences. Nirvana for the liberal with no values!

Besides the fact that this kind of mentality is killing the nation’s character, this mindset has led to the kind of societal breakdown that costs these and all taxpayers money in terms of supporting single mothers, illegal aliens and others who live on the dole.

So perhaps the independents should get a little personal morality and advocate for societal morality. It would make us balance our budgets better! (more…)

“Crazy” Carl Paladino?

09/17/2010

I saw some unflattering headlines about Republican gubernatorial nominee, Carl Paladino. I don’t believe a word of it. He is pro-life and pro-gun; he wants to cut taxes and spending. Plus he is a true outsider with tons of money and thus not beholden to the political machine. That is all I need to know.

The elitist media and the political class are dying to stick us with another Cuomo, former leftist governor Mario’s son, Andrew. The media have built him up as someone just about impossible to beat. Like Spitzer before him (and we all know how well that worked out!).

So they wanted Rick Lazio, who could not win the job of local dog catcher based on his record, to be an easy punching bag. Someone who would run with no intent to win. Disappointingly, the Republican and Conservative parties were behind him.

Then came the maverick Paladino. I am not saying he is perfect but he has the right positions on the issues. And the fact that the Political and Media Establishment don’t want him is all the endorsement he needs in my book.

He will bring real change–exactly what corrupt and pathetic Albany doesn’t want. But the people, you know the whole point of government, want and demand change.

To answer the critics of Paladino, I say look at who constitutes the political class in New York government:

  • After a governor who crossed state lines to have sex with a prostitute–which is, you know, a crime–it would be hard to do any worse. Recall how popular Eliot Spitzer was when he entered office. And he was a creep who should be grateful not to be behind bars with the businessmen he sent there.
  • Then there is the much-hated sitting governor, David Paterson, who had to fill in for Eliot and who too had sex outside his marriage. However, he didn’t have to pay for his indiscretion and so he managed to hold on. He is way too liberal on social issues but even he recognizes that spending must be cut. Liberals, unions and  other special interests don’t like that and have been trying to hound him out of office for months.
  • The state legislature features a man accused of stealing (I don’t mean the usual over-taxation of working Americans) and also a man convicted of domestic violence. Such quality! Who would want an evil Republican-Tea Party person to invade this party?
  • And then there’s Charlie Rangel, who represents his district in Washington, D.C.  A bright light indeed. No comment needed.

If this is sanity and business as usual, then we need crazy pronto!
