For some reason I subscribe to the free New York Times headline service and today I saw an email that President Barack Obama–fresh off his super-elite vacation on tony Martha’s Vineyard–will be delivering his jobs plan on September 7. Something to look forward to indeed.
Without reading the plan or even the article–a supportive yet non-biased one at that I am sure–I have to wonder as many of you are: why wait until now? What brilliant idea can he possibly come up with at this point in his presidency? If he had any ideas, would he not have advanced them right away?
We’ve been told the recession of President George Bush is over–but to the extent that there is still a recession, it is W.’s fault. Remember recovery summer? That was last year and it didn’t work. Unemployment has been consistently at 9% or greater for the whole of Obama’s term. People can only claim unemployment benefits for so long despite numerous extensions to keep the middle class from rioting.
The stimulus did not work. Liberal policies have not worked–taxing and spending don’t create jobs. Spending money you don’t have is not smart; borrowing it to keep things afloat is even worse. Eventually creditors come for what is theirs.
Things would be worse but the Bush tax cuts have been retained–for now–and that contributes to the economy not falling apart completely. But there are those liberals who love taxes who want to find a way to justify taxing an over-taxed nation–at least the 50% of us who actually pay taxes to support the other half who do not.
At least Obama doesn’t have to worry about those voters!
