Sick Society: Hypocrisy Runs Rampant

04/29/2012

What  a week! I was literally sick to my stomach due to a virus but it could have been for any of the following news items:

  • Professors at “Catholic” Georgetown University protested a speech by Catholic pro-life Rep. Paul Ryan because he wants to fix government programs in a way they don’t like
  • Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, a “Catholic” who loves abortion based on his record, signed a bill to outlaw the death penalty even though people really don’t get executed in that liberal northeast bastion
  • Lover of abortion, actress Ashley Judd, mocked–or attempted to–pro-life Sen. Rick Santorum, a devoted Catholic who has the nerve to call abortion evil

As for Georgetown, the Catholic League pointed out that professors–over 90 of them–wrote a letter to protest a speech at the school by a leading Republican, Wisconsin’s Paul Ryan, on his budget that rightfully uses Catholic principles of subsidiarity. Government handouts are not the solution as the professors contend. Ryan wants to empower the poor. That is a Catholic idea. But liberal professors know nothing of what is Catholic.

They love abortion and advocate any violation of Catholic social teaching that involves sexuality.

But they all become very Catholic–or their version of what Catholic is–when it comes to the poor or war or other issues where Church teaching is perceived to be liberal. Except Church teaching is not liberal; it is Christian.

And professors are the ultimate hypocrites when they protest free speech which they claim to love above all else. And especially when they object because they don’t like the content of the speech!

To add to my upset stomach I heard that Gov. Malloy outlawed the death penalty. I am against the death penalty although it is permissible under Church teaching in certain circumstances. Unlike abortion which is NEVER permissible. The reason this upset me is it is outlawing something that is so rarely done that it is hardly worth the effort.

Obama’s Scandals Are on Him!

04/18/2012

Mr. Squeaky Clean really isn’t.

Despite the lack of media coverage of the Solyndra scandal or the Fast and Furious debacle, President Obama has managed to keep his reputation as an ethical person, a moral man, and new kind of leader.

Sure, we all know he appears incompetent and enjoys vacations a little too much. But we all concede he is smart, well-spoken and polished.

Whatever his negatives, he has managed to avoid being tarnished by scandal.

There are always scandals during a presidency. And Obama has had them but on the QT. The media has been engaged in don’t ask, don’t tell when it comes to scandals like those cited above.

But that has changed. Big time.

The simultaneously-breaking scandals of the GSA taxpayer-funded partying masquerading as a conference and the Secret Service dalliances with hookers are eye-opening.

That Secret Service agents would bring hookers or any unknown women into their hotels with the president’s schedule in their rooms is unfathomable. The fact that they were ready to party instead of working is troubling. But doesn’t the president set the example by his constant merriment–basketball games, golf, Hollywood guests, vacations? He is so busy enjoying himself that he rarely has time to govern.

Not a bad thing in light of his radical agenda.

So maybe the Secret Service agents didn’t get the memo that they protect their leaders while they have sex. They’re not supposed to be having the sex themselves. And by the way it is morally reprehensible that these agents were picking up prostitutes whether or not it is legal in Cartagena.

And then there is the General Services Administration sending its employees to Vegas for team building. Why do government workers need to build themselves up? Why can’t they do something novel like work? Or better yet this sounds like an agency that should be targeted for closure under our next president.

As to why they thought they could party on the taxpayers’ dime, they need look no further than the First Lady. Like her husband, she likes to vacation. No matter the price. She flies separately if it suits her even if the taxpayer is footing the bill. And Obama is scouting locations for their next vacation, even in Cartagena, the site of the scandal!

And of course the main reason the GSA “workers” feel like they can spend the taxpayers’ money is that they know Obama will print more or borrow it from China. It’s our money–they value it not.

So we can say that Obama should be held accountable for what happens in his administration. He is their role model. And hopefully our soon-to-be former president!

Key Pro-Life Endorsement for Mitt Romney

04/15/2012

I am sick of the lie that presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Gov. Mitt Romney, is not conservative or pro-life. I have heard him make statements  with my own ears that he will do as much as previous Republican presidents to protect the unborn. It is never enough but it is a start. And the real issue is that even the worst Republican on abortion is 100% better than President Barack Obama, the most radical pro-abortion president in American history. I am sharing the important pro-life endorsement for Romney below:

NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE ENDORSES GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY

Right-to-Life Movement Focused on Defeating Barack Obama in November

WASHINGTON – Determined to secure a pro-life victory in the November election, which will decide the fate of unborn children for decades to come, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, today endorsed Mitt Romney for President of the United States.
“On pro-life issues, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama provide a stark contrast. As the country’s most pro-abortion president, Barack Obama has pursued a radical pro-abortion agenda,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “It is now time for pro-life Americans to unite behind Mitt Romney. For the sake of unborn children, the disabled, and the elderly, we must win.”
Mitt Romney has taken a strong pro-life position and is committed to implementing policies to protect the unborn, the medically dependent and disabled, and the elderly.  Romney opposes abortion and has called the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, “a big mistake.” Romney has expressed his support of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for abortion.
Romney has also stated he believes the Obama health care law should be repealed. The Obama health care law would open the door to federal subsidies for abortion coverage and rationing of lifesaving medical care. He has also stated that, if elected, he would reinstate the Mexico City Policy, which prevents federal dollars from going to organizations that perform or promote abortion overseas.
In comparison, since taking office in January 2009, President Obama has been an outspoken advocate for abortion and has unceasingly worked to expand funding of and access to abortion.  He rescinded the Mexico City Policy, threatened to veto the entire federal spending bill – forcing a government shutdown – rather than accept a provision cutting funding to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. Obama also threatened to veto the Protect Life Act, which would repeal the abortion-expanding provisions of his health care law, and the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which would permanently prohibit any federal program from funding elective abortion. Additionally, President Obama championed the so-called Affordable Care Act while opposing pro-life amendments in the Senate. As enacted, the law will result in federal funding of health plans that pay for elective abortion, and will lead to large-scale rationing of lifesaving medical treatments.
“We are extremely gratified that every candidate who has run for the Republican nomination for president took a pro-life position and kept the life issues at the forefront of the race,”Tobias added. “We look forward to Mitt Romney’s election as our next pro-life president on November 6th.”

More Catholic Bashing: Mike and Molly

04/10/2012

As I recently posted about the anti-Catholic Hollywood agenda, especially at Easter, the attacks are unrelenting, repetitive and annoying. It cannot be a coincidence that Catholic-themed shows air at Easter. And that they are uniformly unflattering to people of faith.

Not all people of faith–Jews and Muslims are generally spared. The target is Christians, especially Catholics.

Easter Monday’s offering of CBS’ Mike and Molly was no exception.

Mike and Molly are the oversized couple who found love together and who are the only sane people in their world filled with stupid, immoral people.

But that does not mean they have morals. They are just less immoral than the drunks and drug users that they know and call family.

Why do I say they have no morals? I should clarify. They have rejected their Catholic upbringing. While basically nice people, they got engaged and shacked up. They have plenty of unmarried sex.

Image Detail

(Source: tvlia.com)

Not good Catholics. And they don’t darken the doorstep of a church either. What we would call non-practicing Catholics or lapsed Catholics.

Yet to please Mike’s mother, they agree to a church wedding. When the priest asks them about themselves–if they are churchgoers or if they intend to raise their kids Catholic–Molly says how can she say she will raise the kids Catholic. Should not the children choose for themselves? Besides, she plans to teach “values.”

You know like shacking up with one’s significant other. Good values like that.

The whole premise of Molly’s liberal indignation is that she cannot be expected to hand her children over to the Church. She cannot be expected to inculcate the faith.

I am sure she would not think twice about teaching her kids that racism is bad and to respect all people. This has to be taught; kids don’t just figure this out. She also would not expect her kids to eat healthy on their own. She would teach them how. She would teach them the importance of education even if they did not want to study (especially since Molly is a teacher). There are lots of things she would teach her children, but religion is something she thinks they can figure out on their own.

Molly doesn’t get it. Faith is not important to her so she thinks her kids can just figure it out. I would love to see the Mollys of the world take that attitude with what does matter to them, which surely includes liberalism. This Molly would not leave to chance. She will raise her kids as good liberals.

Per Hollywood’s morals, her children would not smoke, they would have “safe” sex, and they would think President Obama is a good leader.

This is so pathetic and unnecessary that I will not watch this show anymore. And, Hollywood, advance your values if you will, but please stop attacking my faith. One does not have to do one to do the other.

Except our values trump theirs and they know it. Which is why I don’t expect the attacks to abate.

Faith Lives!: Good Friday Reflections

04/06/2012

On this beautiful spring day, I was blessed to spend much of it in the lovely Church of Our Savior where Father George Rutler preached the Seven Last Words of Christ. For those of you who don’t know this most eloquent priest, who has appeared on Mother Angelica’s EWTN, he is erudite and elegant. He is a real wordsmith.

With his extensive knowledge of faith, culture, history and politics, he is able to weave together information that is eye-opening and educational.

But first and foremost he is a Catholic priest who puts God first. And what amazed me in the church was how many devout people were there today.

So many good people on line for confession. So many people–young and old, rich and poor, black and white–brought together to worship the God Who sent His Son to suffer, die and rise again. People who believe and whose faith was strengthened by the extraordinary preaching of Fr. Rutler.

He talked about how sin is now called virtue and virtue sin. We live in a culture where abortion is called a blessing by some and believing in traditional marriage is called homophobia or social sin.

This was a country once blessed by God and it still is but I fear we are losing God’s protection because we don’t deserve it. There is a reason we have the quality of candidates we have running for office. It reflects who we are as a people. We are a birth control-using, handout-accepting, sexually permissive people who have a sense of entitlement but little sense of responsibility. In other words, we are not good Christians. Or even good Americans for that matter.

Yet there were so many people there who do believe and get that we have a duty to God. True freedom lies in accepting reality that God created us for a purpose. The idea that we can create our own reality is from Satan. But how many of us have fallen for this notion? We are a nation of narcissists.

We believe we can obey ourselves and not God. In fact, there is a growing segment of unchurched people who have a bad attitude about it. They have no sense they are here to serve God. And yet God sacrificed everything–including His only Son–for us as unworthy as we are, have always been and continue to be.

Despite our shortcomings, God loves us perfectly. Instead of being grateful for this undeserved love, we sin and sin some more. But yet there is reason for hope if we repent of our sins, which is one of the themes for today.

Repent! It is the least that we can do for love of our Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord, Who has given us everything.

Happy Easter!

Mitt Romney: The Not-Obama

04/03/2012

On the surface, Gov. Mitt Romney and Pres. Barack Obama have much in common. Both are attractive family men who are successful in their careers. Both are polarizing for different reasons. Mitt–for allegedly not being conservative enough. Bam–for being much more liberal than he claimed.

The similarities are superficial indeed. Mitt is a man of faith who does not advertise it to get votes. If anything, his Mormon faith will be a problem with some bigots in this country. I think it is funny that some people don’t object to Obama’s “faith”–allegedly Christian, arguably secularist Muslim–but they dump on Mitt for supposedly not being a Christian.

Obama ran aggressively as a Christian and then we have heard nary a word about his relationship with Jesus. I do recall his saying Jesus supports socialism. A Christian knows better.

Mitt also worked as a businessman for most of his life. He is a self-made man. He is successful, wildly successful even. People hold this against him and I don’t understand why. He is living the American dream. He worked hard and is wealthy. He represents what is good about the American enterprise system, the one that Obama has been trying to destroy through his economic policies.

Obama was a community organizer and a constitutional scholar (using the latter term loosely, of course). He went into politics and learned the Chicago way. After about five minutes in the U.S. Senate, he ran for president on his speeches. He has now been president for over three years and relies on a teleprompter. His greatest achievement–Obamacare–has caused unspeakable turmoil. And it is poised to bankrupt this country already teetering on the financial edge.

Luckily for us, Romney’s specialty is economic matters, turning chaos into order, and bringing financial growth.

People say they don’t know what Romney stands for and they question if he is a true conservative. I think we know his interest in and his aptitude for economic matters. I think his conservatism shines most brightly in financial affairs. And his conservatism stems from his faith, family and traditional American upbringing.

I always say a Mormon who lives his faith is not only the kind of person one would want as a neighbor, but is just inherently conservative. The Mormon lifestyle leads to conservatism in politics. And isn’t a good Mormon better than a bad Catholic or  bad Protestant as president?

And insofar as Mitt used to take positions that are not conservative–most regrettably claiming to be pro-choice in Massachusetts–he has more than repented of it. Even Ronald Reagan was not always pro-life and he is our hero. Not that I am comparing the two because no one can compare to the best president of our lifetime.
